Congratulations! The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department was recently honored by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) with awards recognizing outstanding achievement. In recognition of her years of services, youth soccer volunteer coach Maddie Krisko, received the District 7 and State of Georgia Volunteer Awards. Ms. Krisko has volunteered more than four years with the program providing stability and consistency and helping approximately 70 young athletes develop their soccer skills, as well as discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. “The Classic City Kids Mountain Bike Club” program was honored as the GRPA Aquatics/Athletics Network’s “Outstanding Program Award.” The goal of the program is to provide an opportunity for young people to experience nature on two wheels and to introduce mountain biking and develop confidence while learning new bike skills in an unfamiliar environment. This is the second consecutive year that a Leisure Services Department program has been honored with an outstanding program award.
“The Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade” earned the “Outstanding Special Event Award.” In Spring 2024, the gathering drew approximately 1,000 people. They created a parade that traveled through Dudley Park and onto the Firefly Trail illuminating the park.
