Blithe Spirit

ACT Presents "Blithe Spirit"

Athens Creative Theatre (ACT) presents Noel Coward’s "Blithe Spirit" from Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4 at Quinn Hall at Memorial Park.

"Blithe Spirit" is a smash comedy hit about a fussy, cantankerous novelist.  His domestic life is disturbed by the jealous ghosts of his first wife, thanks to a séance mishap and a wildly eccentric medium.

Show times are Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale online by phone at 706-613-3771, or in person at the Morton Theatre Box Office located at 195 W. Washington Street, Mondays through Fridays from noon-4:00 p.m.

Farmers Market

West Broad Farmers Market Now at Rocksprings Park

The West Broad Farmers Market is a community-driven, education-oriented farmers market that supports local economic development & community wellness. The market features vendors of crafts, produce and prepared foods.
The 2024 market season takes place through December 15 on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at its new location at Rocksprings Park,Picnic Pavilion. at 135 Columbus Avenue.

Bird Hike

Bird Hike!

Come out as Sandy Creek Nature Center joins forces with Oconee Rivers Audubon Society for an Accessible Bird Hike using the Greenway and parking lot of the nature center.
Attendees will learn basic bird calls and observe a few features that can lead us to identifying birds.
This free program is for all ages, however children must be accompanied by an adult.  The Hike will take place Saturday, May 4 from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.  Online registration is underway.

Coyote

Is that a Coyote?

Are you Coyote curious? 

Learn more about your wild neighbors and get all those questions answered at Talking Coyote on Friday, May 10 from 6:00 - 7:15 p.m. at the Dudley Park pavilion. 
Coyote researchers will cover a wide range of coyote topics about this mysterious urban predator, including how to keep your family and pets safe.

This free program is for all ages, however children must be accompanied by an adult.  Online registration is underway.

Art Mart

Art Mart 2024 at Lyndon House Arts Center

.The Lyndon House Arts Foundation and Lyndon House Arts Center present Art Mart, a fine art and craft market, on Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Splash Pad

Walker Park Splash Pad Opens May 11

The Walker Park Splash Pad, located at 200 Trail Creek Street, opens under its pre-season hours on Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

The splash pad will open weekends only, Saturday, May 11 -Sunday, May 19 and will then operate under regular seasonal hours from Saturday, May 25 - Sunday, July 28.  The splash pad will be open weekends only, August 3 – September 2. 

Splash pad hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.  The splash pad is closed on Mondays for maintenance.

The Rocksprings Park Splash Pad, located at 291 Henderson Ext, will open for the season May 25.

The pools open Memorial Day weekend and close the last weekend of July.

Splash pad admission is $1 per person.  Pool passes are available for purchase and may be used at both splash pads and at all of the Department’s four public pools.  The Bishop park pool remains closed for the 2024 aquatics season.  Individual pool passes are $20 and Family of Four pool passes are $40.  Passes may be purchased onsite with forms of payment accepted including cash and check.

Snake Day

Snake Day 2024

The Leisure Services Department will host Snake Day on Saturday, May 11 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

Want to learn more about snakes?  Then slither out to the annual Snake Day where experts will be on hand to answer questions and fascinate you with snake facts. 

Activities will include animal interaction, crafts, and games.

This program is for families with a $5 admission fee per person.

Movies by Moonlight

"Movies by Moonlight" 

at Bishop Park

The Leisure Services Department will host a free “Movies by Moonlight” outdoor movie event on Friday, May 17 at 8:45 p.m. at Bishop Park at 705 Sunset Drive.

The event features the 2023 film “Paw Patrol- The Mighty Movie.”

The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with “Touch a Truck.” This area including a variety of vehicles to explore representing the ACCGov Fire, Solid Waste, and Police Departments including a K-9 officer.  The Athens Pop up Park will be onsite, as well.  Athens-Clarke County Library staff will lead a craft activity and story time.

Registration is not required.  Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and will sit on the ground to watch the film on the large inflatable screen. Food and beverages will not be sold or provided at the park. Restrooms and water fountains will be available until the end of the screening. 

All park rules will be enforced, including; dogs always on leash, no alcohol, no smoking, and no grills/cooking.
