Hey! It's a Park!The Athens Pop up Park takes a park to the people! Launched in June 2021, this special mobile recreation program recently attended its 75th event! This Pop up Park is available, free of charge, to attend any community-wide or school event within Athens-Clarke County. The bus is covered by original art by local artist Eli Saragoussi.

"ACTing 101 - Ghost Stories" Begins April 11Theatre activities and classes are centered around developing the skills of developing performing artists of all ages and skill levels in the theatrical arts. This program is for ages 8-12 exploring the basics of dramatization, improvisation, and acting fundamentals and takes place Thursdays, April 11 - May 2 from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Quinn Hall at Memorial Park.
The fee is $83 for ACC residents and $125 for non-residents. Online registration is underway. Space is limited.

Pétanque at Lay ParkWhether you’ve never seen a boule or you are an experienced player, you are welcome to join the fun and play Pétanque!
It is played year-round at Lay Park on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, in the mornings when it’s hot and in the afternoons when the weather cools a bit. Petanque is free of charge!
The Pétanque courts at Lay Park are past the swimming pool and tennis courts. There are not any designated ending times for our play dates – the group plays as long as they like.
Everyone is encouraged to come earlier if you prefer and just start a game.

"Firefly Discovery Ride" Set for April 13If you have been hearing about the Firefly Trail and how much fun it is to ride a bike on, it’s time to discover what it is all about. Pump up the tires on those family bikes and join Trails and Open Space staff for the Firefly Discovery Ride! Learn about the history of the trail and future plans. See Athens from a new direction, and discover what a wonderful paved trail system you have here in the Classic City.
This free program is for ages 8 years and older and is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Newest Section of the Greenway Opens April 16The Leisure Services Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open the next phase of the North Oconee River Greenway on Tuesday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m.
The public is invited to attend and assemble at the Greenway’s Carr’s Creek Trailhead on Carriage Lane off Barnett Shoals Road. Limited parking is available along Carriage Lane, so carpooling is encouraged.
This new section of the Greenway is 0.8 miles in length. Beginning on Carriage Lane near Barnett Shoals Road, this stretch of Greenway trail connects to the existing section along the North Oconee River near UGA’s Park and Ride on College Station Road. The Greenway is available for use by pedestrians and any non-motorized modes of transportation, including bicycles.

Step Back in Time!The Leisure Services Department will present “Open House: Log House” program on Saturday, April 13 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center.Join Sandy Creek Nature Center staff as they open the doors to the Log House and explore life in earlier times. Attendees will play games, make a craft, listen to a story (2:30 p.m.), and explore the house built in the 1790s. In addition to the Log House activities, one can visit the brick factory ruins. Join the students and faculty from the University of Georgia as they continue their annual excavations at the ruins of the Athens Brick Company as part of the University Archaeological Training - Sandy Creek (UAT-Sandy Creek) program.This program is open to the public. Pre-registration is available but not required. The fee is $3 per person for ages 3-adult. For additional information, please call 706-613-3615.
