Don't Miss It!The East Athens Educational Dance Center (EAEDC) presents its annual production of “Dancing through Light” at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24 and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25. This annual performance is a family tradition and a favorite performance in the Athens community. This production will pay a special tribute to the legacy of Lois Thomas Ewings, the late founding EAEDC Facility Supervisor.
“Dancing through Light" is a showcase of dance highlighting the gifted students enrolled in East Athens Educational Dance Center’s Accelerated Programs. Featuring ballet, modern, tap, African and contemporary dance; dancers will perform choreography that will inspire and uplift. The performance will include students from age seven to young adults and professionals performing at a high level of expertise.
All performances take place at the Morton Theatre 195 W. Washington Street, Athens GA 30601. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 the day of the show (pending availability). Group tickets are available. Tickets are available online. For more information, please call 706-613-3771

Summer Camp Registration Begins March 16The Leisure Services Department summer camp registration will begin Saturday, March 16 at 9:00 a.m. for ACC residents. Non-residents may register starting Monday, March 18 at noon. Broadway Outing for TeensIt's more than a dinner and a show! Broadway Outings is a one night field trip especially for teens, ages 13-17, to see a live Broadway touring production at the Classic Center. Participants will be treated to a themed activity and dinner before departing for the show. Additionally each Broadway Outing participant gets a take-home study guide to learn more about the production they go to see. The next Broadway Outing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 28 at 5:00 p.m. and features Come from Away which is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander's airstrip on September 11, 2001. Participants will begin their evening with a behind the scenes tour of the Ben Epps Airport's operation followed by dinner in the airport before departing for the performance. Space is limited. "Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade" at Dudley ParkThe Leisure Services Department invites the Athens community to the second annual Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade on Saturday, March 16 at Dudley Park. Participants are invited to gather in Dudley Park starting at 7:30 p.m. with the parade stepping off just after 8pm. Find out more information and meet one’s friends and families at any of the four color-coded entry points at www.accgov.com/lanternparade The community is invited to light up the winding paths to Dudley Park together! This parade is open to families, individuals, schools, neighborhood groups, and organizations who are all encouraged to participate. Bring lanterns, flashlights, your imagination, and join in the parade. Along the way, and at the center of Dudley park, participants with enjoy live music, fantastical performers, and large-scale illuminated sculptures. On the night of the Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade, each access point to Dudley Park will be color-coded and staffed with volunteers to help you find your way. DIY lanterns are encouraged. 2024 Zoo DayThe Leisure Services Department will host at Zoo Day on Saturday, March 16 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Bear Hollow Zoo at Memorial Park. We are celebrating animal art with local art vendors, a youth art exhibition featuring native Georgia wildlife, as well as educational animal encounters and crafts!
The event is free of charge.

Create a Masterpiece!Need to plan a family night or fun date?! Register for Paint Night at Lay Park on Friday, March 1. Painters will be given an example of what to paint and their own canvas to create their work of art. This is open to participants of all artistic abilities looking to have a great time! Materials included.
This program is for ages five and older and takes place from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
