Firefly Bridge over Trail CreekThe Leisure Services Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open the newly completed Firefly Bridge over Trail Creek on Thursday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend and assemble at the bridge that is over Poplar Street behind Mama’s Boy restaurant. Free parking is available at Dudley Park. There will be activities and refreshments beginning at 3:30 p.m. followed by the ribbon cutting at 4:00 p.m.
The Firefly Bridge is a 525-foot long pedestrian bridge that connects the Poplar Street Firefly Trail section to the Dudley Park section. The bridge is constructed using wood piles placed on top of the original railroad trestle piers. Additionally as a part of the bridge structure, weathered steel arches were installed over Poplar Street and the pedestrian path in Dudley Park. There is a 10 foot overlook deck extended on each side of the bridge just over top of Trail Creek. The design intent was to resemble the original railroad trestle bridge that was constructed in 1883.
For more information on the Firefly Trail, please call 706- 613-3620.
