Tuck Everlasting: In Concert

Athens Creative Theatre (ACT) presents “Tuck Everlasting: In Concert” at the Morton Theatre with with music by Chris Miller, lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and book by Claudia Shear and Time Federle.  Shows are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Morton Theatre in downtown Athens.

The production is based on the best-selling children’s classic by Natlie Babbitt.  The concert production follows the story of eleven-year-old Winnie Foster who yearns for a life of adventure beyond her white picket fence, but not until she becomes unexpectedly entwined with the Tuck Family does she get more than she could have imagined.  She is then faced with the question “What would you do if you could live forever?”

Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale online at www.mortontheatre.com, by phone at 706-613-3771, or in person at the Morton Theatre Box Office located at 195 W. Washington Street.  The box office is open Mondays through Fridays from noon - 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 each. Discounted rates are available for groups.

“Tuck Everlasting: In Concert” is part of the Athens Musical Theatre Orchestra (AMTO) program creating pathways for instrumentalists and vocalists to explore musical theatre works.

Bridge

Firefly Bridge over Trail Creek

The Leisure Services Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open the newly completed Firefly Bridge over Trail Creek on Thursday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m.

The public is invited to attend and assemble at the bridge that is over Poplar Street behind Mama’s Boy restaurant.   Free parking is available at Dudley Park.  There will be activities and refreshments beginning at 3:30 p.m. followed by the ribbon cutting at 4:00 p.m.

The Firefly Bridge is a 525-foot long pedestrian bridge that connects the Poplar Street Firefly Trail section to the Dudley Park section. The bridge is constructed using wood piles placed on top of the original railroad trestle piers. Additionally as a part of the bridge structure, weathered steel arches were installed over Poplar Street and the pedestrian path in Dudley Park. There is a 10 foot overlook deck extended on each side of the bridge just over top of Trail Creek. The design intent was to resemble the original railroad trestle bridge that was constructed in 1883.

For more information on the Firefly Trail, please call 706- 613-3620.
