Zoo Day at Bear HollowThe Leisure Services Department will host at Zoo Day 2023 on Saturday, March 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Bear Hollow Zoo at Memorial Park.
The theme is “Athens Natives ” and participants will experience a fun filled day of craft stations, education, animal encounters, and special guests. The event is free of charge.

The Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade at Dudley ParkThe Leisure Services Department invites the community to the inaugural Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade in Dudley Park on Saturday, April 1 beginning at 8:00 p.m. Let's light up the winding paths to Dudley Park together! This parade is open to the Athens community, families, individuals, neighborhood groups, schools, and organizations are all encouraged to participate. Bring your lanterns, flashlights, and your imagination, and then join in the parade. Along the way and at the center of Dudley Park, participants with enjoy live music, fantastical performers and large-scale illuminated puppets. On the night of the Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade, each access point to Dudley Park will be color-coded and staffed with volunteers to help you find your way. Together we can create a fun, magical experience that celebrates the recent park renovations. DIY lanterns are encouraged. Wetlands DayCelebrate Wetlands Day on Saturday, March 25 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Experience Georgia's wetland habitats from the piedmont to the coast!
Educators from the Athens area and the Georgia coast have teamed up to offer a day of family fun with interactive wetland walks, live animal encounters, a virtual reality salt marsh exploration, and a variety of hands-on activities. Wear shoes that can get wet and muddy! This program is free of charge and open for all ages, however children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
This event is hosted by Sandy Creek Nature Center and the Office of UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. For more information, please call 706-613-3615.

Summer StaffLeisure Services will hire more than 100 positions for the summer. Applications are currently being accepted for camp counselors, counselors in training, Grand Slam staff, lifeguards, and pool clerks.
Pay ranges from $15.60 to $17.64 per hour.

Tuck Everlasting: In ConcertAthens Creative Theatre (ACT) presents “Tuck Everlasting: In Concert” at the Morton Theatre with with music by Chris Miller, lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and book by Claudia Shear and Time Federle. Shows are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Morton Theatre in downtown Athens.The production is based on the best-selling children’s classic by Natlie Babbitt. The concert production follows the story of eleven-year-old Winnie Foster who yearns for a life of adventure beyond her white picket fence, but not until she becomes unexpectedly entwined with the Tuck Family does she get more than she could have imagined. She is then faced with the question “What would you do if you could live forever?”Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale online at www.mortontheatre.com, by phone at 706-613-3771, or in person at the Morton Theatre Box Office located at 195 W. Washington Street. The box office is open Mondays through Fridays from noon - 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 each. Camp Online Registration ContinuesThe Leisure Services Department continues summer camp online registration.

Learn to Swim this Summer!The Leisure Services Department offers swim lessons for children three years and older at the Heard Park, Lay Park, Memorial Park, and Rocksprings Park pools. Each session fee is $33 for Athens-Clarke County residents and $50 for non-county residents.
The Department’s Kinderswim program is a free initiative started with the goal of helping ACC children learn how to swim. The program is offered to Athens-Clarke County 5-year-old children at no cost. The lessons are broken into three, 45-minute classes a week for three weeks, for a total of nine lessons, and are available at all of the Department pools, except Bishop Park pool which is closed for the season.
