Save the Date! Spring Program Online RegistrationThe Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department announces its spring program opportunities for 2023.
A diverse selection highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events are planned for adults and children.
Online program registration for Athens-Clarke County residents will open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4. Non-residents may register online starting Monday, February 6 at noon. Registration will continue until programs are at full enrollment or they begin.
Individuals must establish a free online account at www.accgov.com/myrec prior to registration. Payment may be rendered using an American Express, debit card, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card.

Love You to the Moon and Back!The Leisure Services Department will host "Love You to the Moon and Back" a special Valentine’s Day program at Sandy Creek Nature Center.Want to spend your Valentine’s Day under the stars? Join us as we celebrate this romantic holiday with an out of this world experience! This super nova of a romantic evening takes place on Tuesday, February 14 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The program includes a planetarium program and a catered dinner from Dondero’s. The cost is $35 per adult (adults only). Star crossed lovers need to make reservations soon, as space is limited. For an additional fee, we will provide activities for your children while you enjoy date night. The additional fee is $5 per child ages 4-12. Dinner is not provided for children. Online registration is required.

"Movies by Moonlight" at the Morton TheatreThis rare indoor “Movies by Moonlight” event will feature the 1978 classic “The Wiz.” Doors open at 3:00 p.m. The afternoon begins at 3:30 p.m. with a presentation by Lydia Mitchell, a featured dancer in the film, moderated by Dr. Freda Scott Giles, University of Georgia Associate Professor Emerita in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies and African American Studies. The film follows at 4:00 p.m. Popcorn and bottle water will be available for purchase. This event is free of charge and is open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is not required. The public is reminded that downtown parking decks and street metered parking is free on Sundays. So ease on down! For more information, please call 706-613-3770.

The Storybook TrailThe Leisure Services Department will host the inaugural Storybook Trail program on Saturday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center.
This program will feature the book “The Girl Who Kept Night in Her Closet." Bart King, author, and Jacob Wenzka, illustrator, will read the story followed by a meet and greet. Light refreshments will be served. Books will be available for purchase and available for signing.

Annual Frog Hop 5K Sandy Creek Nature Center, Inc. will present the 24th Annual Frog Hop 5K Road Race on Sunday, February 12, 2023
Make plans to run or walk this 5K and 1 mile Tadpole Fun Run. The Tadpole Fun Run starts at 2:00 p.m., with the challenging 5K Frog Hop starting at 2:30 p.m. Both events take place at Sandy Creek Nature Center located at 205 Old Commerce Road.
This event benefits Sandy Creek Nature Center Inc., the non-profit support organization that founded the nature center 50 years ago. SCNC, Inc. now works with Athens Clarke County Leisure Services in support of the environmental education and natural resources preservation efforts of the Nature Center.
Registration before January 31 is $22 per person and $18 for no-shirt option. All registrations received after January 31 are $27 per person. T-shirts are not guaranteed after early registration ends.

Coming Soon...Summer Camp RegistrationThe Leisure Services Department will launch summer camp online registration in March. Athens-Clarke County residents may register starting Saturday, March 18 at 9:00 a.m. Non-residents may register starting Monday, March 20 at noon. All registration takes place at www.accgov.com/myrec Camp opportunities will be posted in February.

Tickets Go on Sale in February“Happiness Rules" is a showcase of dance highlighting the gifted students enrolled in East Athens Educational Dance Center’s Accelerated Programs. Featuring ballet, modern, tap, African and contemporary dance; dancers will perform new works exploring themes of friendship, gratitude, love, and kindness. Curated with the goal of uplifting the audience, the music and choreography are sure to inspire and delight everyone. Guest performances include Atlanta’s Ballethnic Dance Company fresh from its company debut at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Public performances are scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday February 26 at 3:00 p.m. All performances take place at the Morton Theatre at 195 W. Washington Street. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 the day of the show (pending availability). Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, February 3 and are available to purchase online at www.mortontheatre.com.
