Planning for Bishop Park Improvements!

The Leisure Services Department is seeking public input on the design for the SPLOST-funded Bishop Park Improvements project.  Residents are encouraged to provide input on the vision for this project, focusing on the pool and other amenities.  

One more public input opportunity is scheduled: 

• Thursday, July 15 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. with a virtual meeting, the link is available at www.accgov.com/leisureserviceslistens.  

An online public input survey is available through August 1, 2021 at 11:59 p.m at www.accgov.com/leisureserviceslistens.  Staff will be available at the public input sessions to discuss the project with residents who can share their ideas regarding park improvements. Children are encouraged to attend and will participate in a concurrent visioning process.

Where's the Party?

Planning an end of summer gathering or maybe planning early for the holiday season? The Leisure Services Department has a variety of spaces available for rent.

Online reservations for rental spaces, including picnic shelters, are now available at www.accgov.com/myrec.
Fall Registration

Coming up...Fall Online Registration!

The Department announces its fall activity opportunities for 2021 featuring a diverse selection of activities highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events for adults and children.

Programs include adult fitness and tai chi, art classes, baton, youth cooking classes, dance, gymnastics, homeschool groups, nature programs, preschool activities, soccer, softball, teen programs, tennis, theatre, therapeutic recreation, and special holiday events. Online activity registration for Athens-Clarke County residents will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7.  Non-residents may register online starting Monday, August 9 at noon.  

Registration will continue until activities are full or they begin.

Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at www.accgov.com/myrec.  Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card. 
Individuals who already have an online account and received or renewed a Leisure Services Department scholarship since January 1, 2021, may use the scholarship when registering online.  

Individuals with expired scholarships and new scholarship applicants must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office at least five business days prior to registering for a program.   Scholarships must be applied for in person.  Information regarding the scholarship activity, including required documentation, is available at www.accgov.com/scholarship. 

Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using the computer labs at East Athens Community Center at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.

Camelot

Line, Please...

Athens Creative Theatre will be holding auditions for Lerner & Loewe’s Camelot on Monday, August 9 and Tuesday, August 10 at Quinn Hall at Memorial Park.

Camelot follows the story of an idealistic young King Arthur with hopes to create a kingdom built on honor and dignity. His ideals, however are tested when his queen, Guenevere, falls in love with the young Knight Lancelot and the fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance. 

Roles are available for youth, teens, adults, and seniors of all skill levels. Auditions will be held at Memorial Park (Quinn Hall) and audition appointments can be made by calling 706-613-3628 or emailing act@accgov.com 
Grand Slam

Calling All Teens!

The Leisure Services Department continues the Grand Slam summer program for teens.

Grand Slam is a special summertime program for individuals aged 11-17 who reside in Athens-Clarke County.  This program takes place Friday evenings in  July from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Lay Park.


Evenings include games, giveaways, guest speakers, life enrichment activities, music, refreshments, sports, and more.

Free transportation will be provided to and from Grand Slam from East Athens Community Center at 400 McKinley Drive and Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Extension.
The program is free of charge, however online registration is required at www.accgov.com/grandslam
