Splash Pad

The Frog Returns!

The Walker Park Splash Pad (formerly Trail Creek Park), located at 200 Trail Creek St, is now open!

The Splash Pad will be open weekends only through May 23 and will then operate under regular summer hours from Saturday, May 29 - August 1.   Hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.  The splash pad is closed on Mondays for maintenance.

The Rocksprings Park Splash Pad, located at 291 Henderson Ext, will open for the season May 29.  Pools open on May 29, as well.

Splash pad admission is $1 per person, cash only. Pool passes are available for purchase and may be used at both splash pads and at all of the Department’s five public pools.  Individual pool passes are $20 and Family of Four pool passes are $40.  Passes may be purchased at each pool and splash pad location.

Due to COVID-19, a series of requirements are in place to ensure a safe experience for all visitors:

• Walker Park Splash Pad is limited to 75 people.  Patrons will receive a colored wristband upon entry and will be utilized if pool capacity is met.  If a line forms, staff will impose a time limit to ensure all residents have the opportunity to utilize aquatics facilities.

• Splash Pad patrons will see signage and visible markings leading up to the entrance of each pool to indicate six feet for social distancing purposes. 

• Anyone displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 will be denied entry. Those symptoms include cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell.

• Social distancing and wearing of masks are recommended. Masks will not be required while in the water.

• Water fountains are closed and patrons are encouraged to bring their own water in a non-glass container.

$200 Hiring Incentive for
Summer Camp Counselors and Summer Camp Directors

The Leisure Services Department is offering a $200 hiring incentive for summer day camp counselors and summer camp directors in 2021.  Employees will receive the bonus after the completion of the summer season. 

Camp counselor and camp director opportunities are available throughout the Department including East Athens Community Center, Lay Park, Memorial Park, Rocksprings Park, and
Sandy Creek Nature Center. 

Typical work hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Camp

Summer Camp Online
Registration Continues!

There is still room! Openings remain in the East Athens Day Camp, dance camps, sports camps, and teen camps.

In November 2020, Leisure Services switched to a new online registration system. Parents who have not already established a free online account since November must do so at www.accgov.com/myrec .

Scholarships are available for qualifying ACC residents. Parents who wish to apply for a scholarship must do so in person at a Leisure Services Department facility office.  Applicants must apply for a scholarship at least five business days prior to registering for a program or camp.  Applicants must have a valid email address.  More information, including required documentation, is available at www.accgov.com/scholarship. 

Leisure Services has established COVID-19 camp protocols and policies that are available at www.accgov.com/camp, in accordance with CDC and American Camp Association guidelines and recommendations.  Camp numbers are reduced and face masks are required by all campers and staff.

Fun Ride

Come Along for the Ride!

Jump on your bike and join the fun at the Family Fun Ride on Saturday, May 15 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.!  Assemble at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

Curious about the Greenway and Firefly Trail? Want to get the family out on bikes for a ride? Enjoy this 6-mile tour of our multi-use trail system. We will stop to enjoy the sites and discuss points of interest along the route. Bring your own bike and helmet.

Online registration is required.  This event is free of charge. Space is limited.

Masks On

Park and Facility Update

All Department parks and facilities continue to operate .All Department parks and facilities continue to operate under restricted use and limited public access. The following restrictions are in effect for the immediate future:

• Athletic fields and gymnasiums are open. 

• Basketball, pickleball, tennis, and volleyball courts as well as playgrounds are open. Dog park access is limited.  Bear Hollow Zoo is open.

• Morton Theatre remains closed.

Face covers must be worn at all parks and facilities. People are reminded to continue to limit close contact, practice physical distancing measures, wash or sanitize hands frequently, and follow group gathering and other guidelines per the governor's statewide executive orders.

Swim School

Learn to Swim this Summer!

The Leisure Services Department offers swim lessons for children three years and older at the Bishop Park, East Athens Community Center, and Lay Park pools.   
 
“Swim School” at Bishop Park, at 705 Sunset Drive, East Athens Community Center, at 400 McKinley Dr, and at Lay Park located at 297 Hoyt Street.

“Parent/Tot Swim School” at Bishop Park is for children, ages 6 months-3 years.

Each session fee is $33 for Athens-Clarke County residents and $50 for non-county residents.  Scholarships are available for qualifying Athens-Clarke County residents.  

The Department’s Kinderswim program is a free initiative with the goal of helping ACC children learn how to swim. The program is offered to all Athens-Clarke County 5-year-old children at no cost.  The lessons are broken into three, 45-minute classes a week for three weeks, for a total of nine lessons, and are available at all of the Department pools.
