Time to Renew!It is that time of year, again. It is time to renew the ACCGov Leisure Services Scholarship! The scholarship program is for qualifying Athens-Clarke County residents under the age of 18. Scholarships are issued at 25%, 50%, and 75% levels. There is a $400 annual cap in scholarship funds per child.
Requirements for documentation: recent utility bill (last 90 days), the most recent IRS Tax Form 1040 (with children listed), and a valid photo ID.
The Leisure Services Department switched to a new online registration system in November 2020. Those individuals who have not created a new online registration account, may do so at www.accgov.com/leisure. This needs to be done prior to applying for the scholarship so that the scholarship can be credited to the account. Scholarships may be applied for, or renewed, at any department facility office. Due to COVID-19, it is recommended to call prior to visiting.
Scholarships must be applied for and processed at least five business days prior to the day of registration.

Save the Date!The Leisure Services Department announces its spring activity opportunities for 2021.A diverse selection of activities highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events are planned for adults and children.
Online activity registration for Athens-Clarke County residents will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6. Non-residents may register online starting Monday, February 8 at noon. The Department will implement a “rolling registration,” with new activities opening on Saturdays for residents and Mondays for non-residents. Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card.
Registration will continue until activities are at full enrollment or they begin. On November 1, 2020, the Leisure Services Department updated its online registration software. Individuals who have not established a new online account since November 2020, must do so at www.accgov.com/leisure . Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using the computer labs at East Athens Community Center at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.

MLK Day Holiday HoursThe Leisure Services Department park grounds will operate under reduced hours of 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on MLK Day, Monday, January 18. Facilities are closed. It Could be a Masterpiece!Online submissions are now being accepted for the Lyndon House Arts Center's 46th Juried Exhibition. The submission deadline is January 22, 2021. This year's Guest Juror is Hallie Ringle. She is the Hugh Kahul Curator of Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art where she's curated exhibits including Celestia Morgan: REDLINE and Barbie: Dreaming of a Female Future. She was formerly Assistant Curator at The Studio Museum in Harlem and a Fall 2018 Andy Warhol Curatorial Fellow.
Athens area artists 18 years and older working in the visual arts field are invited to submit work. The Athens area includes the following counties: Athens-Clarke County, Banks, Barrow, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Jackson, Hall, Madison, Morgan, Oconee, and Oglethorpe, Walton, and Wilkes Counties.
Original artworks in any visual media may be entered. No reproductions, no works previously shown at the Lyndon House Arts Center and no works shown in the Athens area within the last year. No multi-piece works, such as diptychs, triptychs, or grids. This includes second and third works. Sculptures must be one piece.

Park and Facility UpdateAll Department parks and facilities continue to operate .All Department parks and facilities continue to operate under restricted use and limited public access. The following restrictions are in effect for the immediate future:
• Athletic fields and gymnasiums are open. Athletic leagues can participate in internal scrimmages (no out of county teams can participate).
• Basketball, pickleball, tennis, and volleyball courts as well as playgrounds are open. Dog park access is limited. Bear Hollow Zoo is open.
• Morton Theatre remains closed.
Face covers must be worn at all parks and facilities. People are reminded to continue to limit close contact, practice physical distancing measures, wash or sanitize hands frequently, and follow group gathering and other guidelines per the governor's statewide executive orders.
