Provide Public Input on Jefferson River Road Sidewalk / Multi-Use Path Project through Oct. 23
The Athens-Clarke County Transportation and Public Works Department is seeking public input on sidewalk and multi-use path options on Jefferson River Road from Jefferson Road to Vincent Drive through Friday, October 23.
A public comment survey is available online and includes a story map and highlights project alternatives, multi-use alternatives, and cost comparisons of different plans. The survey and details are available at accgov.com/jeffersonriver.
The proposed project will close an existing gap and provide safe access to adjacent neighborhoods and businesses along Jefferson River Road, as well as to public transportation and points of interest along Jefferson Road. Adding mid-block crosswalks with flashing beacon signage on Jefferson River Road is also being considered as part of the project.
The Jefferson River Road project is a Tier 1 Pedestrian Project and a Tier 3 Bicycle Project identified in the Athens in Motion Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plan, which is available at www.accgov.com/athensinmotion. Several sidewalk and multi-use path alternatives are being studied as part of the project.
A video explaining the Jefferson River Road project and the sidewalk and multi-use path options is available at the project website at accgov.com/jeffersonriver or on YouTube (youtube.com/accgov or by searching for ’accgov’ on the app on mobile or TV devices). A video of the Mayor and Commission Work Session on September 20, 2020 that featured discussion of the project is also currently available on the project webpage and YouTube.
