ACCGov Stormwater Management Named Education Program of Excellence

We are so proud to announce that the Stormwater Management Program was recently named an "Education Program of Excellence" in the Watershed Category by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals. This award is given out each year to municipalities that demonstrate excellence and innovation in the realm of water education.

Did you know that our education program encompasses K-12, business, and public education and outreach? In 2019 alone, the Stormwater Education Specialist conducted 38 K-12/youth activities, participated in 6 business outreach events, attended 8 public events, and hosted 21 workshops or presentations for community groups. We consider education and public awareness a critical piece of stormwater management and will continue to strive for excellence in our programming.

Coming Soon: A New Kind of Athens Water Festival...

It is probably no surprise that the in-person Athens Water Festival - originally scheduled for September 12, 2020 at Sandy Creek Park - has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Who says we can't still have some watery fun, though? Event organizers are in the process of planning a new, reimagined "Water Festival in a Box." Make sure to check in at www.athenswaterfestival.com for more information. Additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Call for Photo Submissions

Any photographers out there? Stormwater Staff will be starting to put together the fourth edition of our Stormwater Calendar soon. If you'd like to submit a water or nature-themed photo to be considered for the 2021 calendar, please email it to stormwater@accgov.com with the name of the photographer, along with a brief description of where, when, and why it was taken. It might get published in our calendar!
