COVID-19 Update and Department Service Changes

The Transportation & Public Works Department will continue to be open with limited operations. Buildings will not be open to the public; however, staff are available by phone or email from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Specific Division updates are included below.

Engineering: Permit applications can be submitted by emailing engineering@accgov.com. Staff will contact applicants when permits are approved and to make arrangements for payment. Please contact Erica Thomas with questions at erica.thomas@accgov.com or 706-613-3440. The ACCGov Planning Department will continue with development submittals on an as-needed basis or by appointment in a modified lobby area in order to provide as much physical separation as possible. A staff person for Public Works will be available if any questions arise during submission. Please contact staff with submission questions prior to drop-off.

Land Development: Active construction site inspections will be conducted each day. There may be some delays due to reduced staff levels.

Traffic Engineering: For lane closures, please contact Mike Dunbar at mike.dunbar@accgov.com or call 762-400-7837.

Streets and Drainage: To report potholes, drainage issues, or a dead animal in the roadway, please call 706-613-3465.

Stormwater: Stormwater Utility Fee payments will not be accepted in-person until further notice. To make a credit card payment, please use the online service at www.accgov.com/stormwater. To pay by check or money order, please use the drop box locations at the ACCGov Water Business Office (located at 124 E Hancock Avenue). Please contact Billing Staff with questions at stormwater@accgov.com.

We apologize for any inconvenience. These measures are being taken to ensure the safety of both the public and our employees by following Athens-Clarke County policy and CDC Safe Distancing guidelines. Barrels from 2019 Roll Out the Barrels

Roll Out the Barrels 2020 - Cancelled

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and challenges with re-scheduling for the Fall, the 2020 Roll Out the Barrels event - originally scheduled for May 21 - has been cancelled for this year. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you will join us in 2021 for this fun, community event. Thank you for your support, and thank you to the 19 artists who agreed to paint barrels for our event.

National Public Works Week: May 17-23

Since 1960, the American Public Works Association (APWA) has sponsored National Public Works Week, which is meant to energize and educate the public on the importance of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing and operating at the heart of their local communities to improve everyday quality of life. ACCGov typically celebrates Public Works Week with a Rolling Truck Tour, employee luncheon, and a Public Works Employee of the Year Award. While our celebration will look quite different this year, we encourage the public to keep an eye on our social media accounts for shoutouts and spotlights on the work our Department does each and every day.
