Social Media Threat Leads to Juvenile Complaint
On November 7th, detectives submitted and obtained a juvenile complaint for a Clarke
County School District (CCSD) middle school student. The complaint stems from an October 30th
school threat made via social media.
The incident began on October 30th when a concerned school district parent viewed the
threat and contacted ACCPD. Our investigators contacted CCSD administration and began an
investigation. ACCPD’s initial investigation indicated that there was not an immediate threat to
the schools.
Further investigation led detectives to a 13-year-old female student who was
responsible for the threat. ACCPD detectives obtained a juvenile complaint for her which
consisted of three counts of Terroristic Threats and one count of Disruption of a School.
Working as partners, the Clarke County School District and the Athens-Clarke County
Police Department take the security of school children and employees seriously. We encourage
families to discuss the dangers of weapons and the use of threatening language in school and
on social media. Please remind your children to report any weapons or threats to an adult
immediately.
