Over the last three weeks, ACCPD officers and detectives have made significant
arrests in several murder cases.
In the latest incident on March 4, 2019, ACCPD arrested Marcel M. Oliver (51) of
Dorchester, Massachusetts, who is wanted for Murder and Home Invasion by the Boston
Police Department.
In this incident, ACCPD received information from the U.S. Marshals Service that
Oliver was in Athens-Clarke County. After reviewing incident reports, our detectives
determined that ACCPD had contact with Oliver in several separate incidents in March.
On Thursday, 4-4-19, ACCPD detectives with assistance from the Marshals Service and the
FBI Safe Streets Task Force located Oliver on Waddell Extension and safely took him into
custody.
This arrest comes on the heels of the apprehension of Marquavius Knox (26) of
Athens, who was charged with the murder of Jamelle Brightwell on April 2, 2019.
And on March 17, 2019, ACCPD detectives were instrumental in locating Joshua
Jackson and Derrick Ruff, who went missing in mid-December of 2018. Locating Ruff and
Jackson, along with significant work by ACCPD investigators, led the Gwinnett County
Police Department to issue warrants for the arrest of several individuals.
“The outstanding efforts of our detectives and officers provide proof that we are
committed to solving violent crimes and arresting violent criminals to keep the AthensClarke County community safe for everyone,” said Jerry Saulters, Captain of ACCPD’s
Criminal Investigations Division.
