On September 12th at approximately 10:30 pm, ACCPD was investigating a domestic dispute in the 100 block of Baxter Drive. ACCPD attempted to stop an individual who was believed to be involved.
The male suspect, 26-year-old Athens’ resident, fled from the officer and at one point stopped in an open field in the 2000 block of Baxter Street. At this location, the suspect used a firearm he had in his possession and shot himself. The suspect was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.
It is believed that the male suspect was involved in an earlier domestic dispute. The victim, a 29-year-old female, reported to officers that the suspect grabbed her, threw her onto a futon, and then left the apartment.
This incident is under investigation.
