The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will present will “Journey through the Stars” this winter at the planetarium at Sandy Creek Nature Center.
“Winter Skies” is planned for Saturday, December 15 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. What is visible in our night sky during winter? This planetarium program is about winter skies and discover stories about Taurus and the Pleiades.
“Fun with Stars” is scheduled for Saturday, December 27 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Feeling like you've been at home too much during the winter break and looking for a fun, afternoon activity? Join us for a mid-afternoon planetarium program. Sit back and enjoy a fun show about the stars, planets and our galaxy.
“Birds of the Night Sky” is set for Saturday, January 19 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. The sky is like an aviary! See bird constellations of the night sky like Corvus the Crow, Aquila the Eagle and Cygnus the Swan and listen to their stories. You'll feel like an ornithologist as you learn tricks to identify the birds of the night sky.
“Love Stories of the Night Sky” will take place Saturday, February 16 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. In honor of Valentine’s Day, listen to myths about love and identify the constellations that represent love or star-crossed lovers in the night sky.
The program fee is $2 for an Athens-Clarke County and $3 for a non-Athens-Clarke County per session. Online registration is underway at www.accgov.com/leisure by clicking the “Nature” tab. This program has an admission fee and is not scholarship eligible. Pre-registration is required. All participants must register. No children under five years of age. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
