Pilot Project to Record Mayor & Commission Work Sessions During February in City Hall


The Athens-Clarke County Public Information Office will begin recording Mayor and Commission Work Sessions from the Commission Chamber in City Hall in February as part of a pilot project on Tuesday, February 13 at 5:30 p.m. Work sessions are informal, non-voting sessions with a few topics covered in greater detail with staff and/or outside consultants or agencies. Agendas and presentations for upcoming work sessions are available through the Clerk of Commission's Office at www.accgov.com/agendas.

Although traditionally held in the auditorium of the Dougherty Street Government Building, the work session meetings will be moved to City Hall at least temporarily during the pilot project. City Hall is equipped with broadcast-quality cameras and audio equipment, as well as remote operation capabilities, as part of the government access television channel ACTV studio that is used to broadcast and record other Mayor and Commission meetings. The pilot project in February will assess the location's suitability for continued recording and broadcasting of future work sessions. 

Work sessions are generally held on the second Tuesday of each month. However, due to the number of topics needing discussion in February, a second work session will take place on the fourth Tuesday of February (February 27) at 5:30 p.m. This meeting will also be recorded.

The work session recordings are expected to be available the following day for on-demand viewing at www.accgov.com/videos. They will also be available for on-demand viewing on the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government's main YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/accgov, as well as through the YouTube app found on devices such as Roku and Apple TV by searching for 'accgov.' 

The Public Information Office began a pilot project of recording Mayor and Commission Regular Session and Agenda Setting Sessions in 2002 prior to broadcasting them on ACTV and began online streaming and on-demand options of these meetings in 2007.
