"The Same, Yet Separate, Artworks by J Taran Diamond" Exhibit at Lyndon House Arts Center
Tuesday, November 8, 2022
The Lyndon House Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening of The Same, Yet Separate Artworks by J Taran Diamond on November 8, 2022 – March 4, 2023
J Taran Diamond is a metalsmith and interdisciplinary craft artist. Diamond creates intricate ornate objects inspired by historic artifacts that investigate anti-blackness within the material culture of the American south.
In preparation for this exhibition, J Taran Diamond toured the Ware-Lyndon Historic House Museum. Returning to the studio, Diamond created new objects for the Lyndon House Arts Center Lobby Case, including works in response to the wedding dress of Moselle Lyndon housed in the front parlor.
J Taran Diamond currently studies and teaches at the University of Georgia after earning their BFA from the University of North Texas. Diamond’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at New York City Jewelry Week, Munich Jewelry Week, and the Czong Institute of Contemporary Art in Gimpo, South Korea. Outside of the studio, Diamond is an advocate for black people in academia, and works to dismantle the systemic barriers that make higher education inaccessible to black people.
J Taran Diamond will be giving a Third Thursday Gallery Talk on January 19, 2023 at 6:00 pm.
All exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public. Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please note during the fall, the Lyndon House Arts Center will be closed on home football game Saturdays.
