Masks On, Athens! Face Cover Requirement
On Tuesday, September 15, the Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission approved the 8th Declaration of a Local State of Emergency Related to COVID-19.
Section 6 of the declaration includes a requirement for the public to wear masks/face covers that cover their mouth and nose in public places, as well as inside entities (private business, establishments, corporations, non-profit corporations, or organizations) and on their attached land.
There are some exceptions to the requirement, as outlined in the declaration. The full declaration is available at www.accgov.com/coronavirus.
The language of the Section follows the Governor's Executive Order that is also available at www.accgov.com/coronavirus.
The order allows governmental entities located in counties that have reached a threshold requirement of 100 cases per 100,000 people over the past 14 days to impose a local face cover requirement. Daily status updates are available at the GA Department of Public Health website (dph.georgia.gov/covid-19-daily-status-report).
