Discolored Water Still Possible Due to Damaged Fire Hydrant on Lexington Road on Monday

The ACC Public Utilities Department continues to receive reports of discolored water as a result of damage to a fire hydrant on Lexington Road on Monday, November 4. The hydrant was connected to a 16” water main. The fire hydrant was repaired and bleeder lines were set out to help clear up water.

If you are experiencing discolored water, contact Public Utilities' after-hours number at 706-613-3481 and provide your location. This information helps determine if additional bleeder lines are needed and where to place the lines.

Discolored or brown water is due to mineral sediment in the line being stirred up when a water line is brought back into service. The water is safe to use and consume, although it is advised not to use discolored water to wash clothes. Running water for up to 20 minutes should clear the water’s appearance.
