Public Utilities Department Water and Sewer Division internal crews are scheduled to work four nights a week, Sunday nights through Wednesday nights and into the following mornings, on the project.
During the first three nights of construction work (May 19-21), Baxter Street will be closed from Hull Street to South Lumpkin Street and South Lumpkin Street will be closed from Wray Street to Baxter Street to southbound traffic. South Lumpkin Street will remain open during this time for northbound traffic towards downtown.
After the Baxter Street / Lumpkin Street Intersection work is complete by May 21, sections of South Lumpkin Street between East Broad Street and Baxter Street will be closed four nights a week to all traffic throughout the remainder of the project. The locations of the closures and detours will shift up South Lumpkin Street during the project based on the phase of work as it moves north from Baxter Street to Baldwin Street to Wray Street to near East Broad Street.
Closures will last from approximately 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday night each week until the following mornings. Detours will be in place during closures and will change depending on the section of road closed at that time.
South Lumpkin Street is planned to reopen each day to traffic both ways and remain open over weekends.
