Update - Barber Street Closure from Oneta to N. Chase / Dairy Pak / Newton Bridge until March 2019
Barber Street will remain closed to traffic between Oneta Street & Chase Street / Dairy Pak Road / Newton Bridge Road until March 2019 to replace a failing large corrugated metal pipe & culvert under Barber St. now that utility relocations are done.
Barber Street will remain closed to through traffic between Oneta Street and Chase Street / Dairy Pak Road / Newton Bridge Road. The closure began Tuesday, August 21 and was originally expected to last for approximately two months.
The closure was necessary to replace a large corrugated metal pipe and culvert under Barber Street that started to - and eventually did - fail near Maxey Boulevard, just north of Loop 10. After further assessment, the timeframe for the replacement of the culvert and roadway was extended due to the need to relocate a number of public and private utility lines before the repair work could continue.
Utility work has been completed. Work on the replacement of the former metal pipe culvert with a concrete structure and replacement of the roadway is expected to begin the week of November 26 by a private contractor. The replacement work is expected to take 3-4 months depending on weather conditions.
Local traffic will still be able to access all businesses in the area, while through traffic will be detoured to Oneta Street and North Chase Street.
