Blasting on Arch St. as part of Water Line Upgrade

Arch Street between East Broad Street and Poplar Street is restricted only to local traffic to allow the Public Utilities Department to upgrade an existing 2" water line to a 8" water line. Some blasting is required due to rock in the area.

Arch Street between East Broad Street and Poplar Street is restricted only to local traffic to allow the Public Utilities Department to upgrade an existing 2" water line to a 8" water line as part of the Water Rehabilitation and Replacement Project. The restriction will continue for the next four to eight weeks depending on the amount of rock discovered in the area.

The water line upgrade is being done by Site Engineering and will require some blasting due to the rock in the area. The Fire Marshal has issued a blasting permit to the contractor and an separate third party will monitor the blast process. Public Utilities staff and the contractor are also speaking with residents in the area and providing information on door hangers.

Blasting is currently scheduled at various times during Monday, May 14 through Thursday, May 17, although additional blasting may be required over the coming weeks.
