fuel consumption

Tips for how to reduce your car’s fuel consumption

  • Stop idling: turn off the car when you make a stop. Don’t leave the car running longer than it needs to.
  • Car maintenance: Maintain your engine’s health to have the best energy efficiency.
  • Choose hybrid or fuel-efficient vehicles: When purchasing a car, consider investing in an electric or hybrid vehicle to reduce gasoline consumption. If choosing a standard fuel vehicle, choose one with high gas mileage.
  • Slow down: Obey traffic laws and drive the speed limit; speeding increases fuel use by up to 33%.
  • Carpool: Carpool with neighbors or co-workers as frequently as possible to reduce fuel use and daily wear on your car.
  • Maintain tires: Tires that are in good shape reduce road resistance and help cars to operate more smoothly.

Rebate Programs

Driving an electric vehicle or a hybrid electric vehicle reduces carbon dioxide emissions and gasoline consumption, therefore saving you money and reducing your impact on the environment. There are federal rebates available for EV investment. In Georgia, Georgia Power and Jackson EMC offer rebate programs to households that invest in electric vehicles or electric vehicle charging stations.
