SUMMER 2018 Art Camp Volunteer Assistant @LyndonHouseArtsCenter Volunteer Position Description
What does an Art Camp Volunteer Assistant do? Assistants are volunteers who serve as mentors for campers as they explore the arts. They add to the Art Camp atmosphere by helping to engage campers (typically ages 5-16) in art making activities. They also help with safety protocols, drop-off and pick-up of the children, helping instructors lead activities, prepare snack for the children, help exhibiting art work, help with setup and cleanup before and after Art Camp and other duties as needed. Volunteers arrive at 8:30am and leave at 4:30pm. Half-day options are available (8:30am-12:30pm or 12:30pm-4:30pm). Scheduling priority is given to volunteers who are available for at least two weeks during the SUMMER. Art Camp runs during most of the weeks of June and July (no Art Camp week of July 2-July 6).
Who can be an Assistant? Volunteers for this position must enjoy working with children and demonstrate responsibility, self-control, ability to follow directions and have a positive attitude. Previous babysitting or similar experience is helpful. Previous experience with art and art techniques helpful. *Note: Volunteers ages 18 and up will be required to submit to a background check at no cost.
What training is involved? A SUMMER 2018 Art Camp training session will be held on June 1, 2018, from 10am-1pm. This program will cover Art Camp culture and the Arts Center mission. Agenda will include responsibilities, an introduction to the facilities and an opportunity to meet LHAC staff members. Ongoing training and mentoring will take place throughout the program.
How to apply? A completed application should be submitted by April 20th for priority consideration. Returning volunteers do need to submit an application. Volunteer opportunities will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
