Green Life is a community-wide celebration providing citizens with an opportunity to improve their homes, businesses, and community environment. Events are held March through May by our partnering organizations to encourage learning and to provide tools necessary for creating an environmentally friendly community.
The "main event" this year will be the Green Life Expo & Awards on February 29th at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. The Expo and Awards will feature environmentally-focused organizations for a day of family fun followed by a ceremony to honor Athens’ sustainability superstars. Through peer nominations within the community, the Green Life Awards recognize sustainability leaders in Athens-Clarke County schools, businesses, community organizations, & government. These awards celebrate individuals, businesses, and organizations that have gone above and beyond in the ways of environmental stewardship, innovative sustainable design, and other community improvements. Join us on February 29th at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia to celebrate sustainability in Athens, specifically recognizing these dedicated award recipients. The awards ceremony will take place from 4:00 to 5:00 PM followed by a reception from 5:00 to 6:00 PM .
As part of the annual Green Life awards ceremony, the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government solicits nominations in a variety of environmental areas. Help honor local individuals, schools, and businesses by completing a nomination form in the "Awards Info" tab above. All sustainability-related organizations, departments, and businesses interested in tabling during the expo are encouraged to complete the Exhibitor Application located below or in the "featured exhibitors" tab above.

GREEN LIFE EXPO & AWARDS ART,
PHOTOGRAPHY AND POETRY CONTEST
2020 Theme: “Leap into Sustainability”
The theme is based on the 2020 leap year. How do you leap into sustainability? Is it by composting, recycling, conserving water and energy, or keeping our community litter free? We encourage you to create artwork (painting, drawing, and sculptures), short video (30 seconds-1.5 minutes), take a photograph or write a poem to demonstrate how we can leap into sustainability. A form must be attached to each entry.
Winners will be notified in early February and will be recognized at the Green Life Expo & Awards on February 29th, 2020! All students K-12 are encouraged to submit their work! Selections will be made based on grade level and medium category (art, photography and poetry) and will receive a prize. In addition, all winners will have their art and photography on display on the day of the awards ceremony. The poetry contest winners will be asked to read their poem at the event.
All entries are due to the ACC Recycling Division, Green School Program, at 725 Hancock Industrial Way, Athens, GA 30605 by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17th 2020.
