Notice of Proposed Property Tax Increase

The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission have tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 15.38 percent.  All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at 120 Dougherty St., Governmental Building Auditorium on May 11, 2023 at 5:30 p.m.

Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase are City Hall (Commission Chamber), 301 College Avenue on May 16, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. and at City Hall (Commission Chamber), 301 College Avenue on June 6, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 13.100 mills, an increase of 1.746 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 11.354 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $300,000 is approximately $165.87 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $375,000 is approximately $261.90.
