About the Water Conservation Office

The mission of the Water Conservation Office is to promote a water-efficient lifestyle through education, collaboration, and action to sustain our water portfolio and elevate the value of water in Athens-Clarke County.

We provide Athens-Clarke County with the necessary resources to value and protect our water, ensuring a lifelong supply for today and future generations.

Water System Efficiency

The Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities Department recognizes that water-efficiency starts with us.  We work every day to improve the efficiency of our system to keep operating costs down and preserve our precious water resource.

Outreach and Education

The Water Conservation Office plans and implements a variety of programs to educate citizens and promote water conservation efforts. In 2018, the Water Conservation Office has reached almost 10,000 children and adults through family events, school visits, teacher workshops, water treatment plant tours, and onsite water conservation programs. They were also recognized by the EPA's WaterSense as one of the nine 2018 WaterSense Sustained Excellence Award Winners.
