Water Business Office Closed for Walk-in Customers:

Your safety and health are important to us. To minimize the risk and spread of COVID-19 to our customers and staff, the Water Business Office is closed for in-person transactions at this time.  If you need to pay your water bill, we have several options available:  mail, online with an e-check, bill pay through your bank, or one of two drop boxes located at 124 E. Hancock Ave.  We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. Please check back for updates.

About the Public Utilities Department

The Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities Department recognizes clean water is critical to our economy, health, and way of life.  The utility operates as an effective and reliable enterprise, responsibly reinvesting in the infrastructure necessary to provide Athens with quality drinking water and wastewater services in a sustainable manner. 

We have the capacity to treat and deliver 36 million gallons of clean drinking water daily to the Athens area through almost 800 miles of water lines. The utility provides wastewater collection and treatment to approximately 75 percent of the residential population, as well as all industrial and commercial customers.  The sanitary sewer system consists of approximately 500 miles of gravity sewers, one pump station, and three water reclamation facilities.

Advanced Metering Infrastructure

The Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) System installation is complete.  AMI offers new technology to be used with the same meter ACC PUD has used and relied on for years.  The system adds a new meter interface unit (MIU) to the meter, providing the utility with the ability to remotely gather consumption data in real time to provide improved customer service.
