About The ACCPD

The mission of Athens-Clarke County Police Department is to support and defend the U.S. Constitution, protect and safeguard all life, and ensure equal protection of rights for all as we work to reduce both crime and the fear of crime.  As guardians of Athens-Clarke County, we envision a department that builds the highest levels of trust and confidence within the community through fair and impartial policing.  To learn more about our efforts to maintain and enhance productive partnerships with the community and ensure community-oriented, procedurally just policing, please visit our Transparency in Policing page.

The department has an authorized strength of 254 sworn positions, 64 civilian positions, and 33 crossing guards.  We were the 48th police department to be nationally accredited by CALEA and one of the first (1 of 6) to receive state certification through the GACP.
