Nature Education

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department offers a selection of nature education activities and programs at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Get outside and learn something new about your natural surroundings. Programs take place in the Education & Visitor Center, as well as out on trails or the extensive grounds of the nature center.

The selection of programs is divided into a variety of categories:

Public Programming: The Nature Center offers a wonderful selection of  Public Programming: where everyone is encouraged to come and learn something new and bring a friend or two!  Some of these programs do require pre-registration, while others are open for walk-in participation.  Everyone is encouraged to register early, as programs are popular and often fill quickly.

School and Group Program: All school children love a field trip, especially when the destination is Sandy Creek Nature Center!  Teachers, please take a moment and review the school and group programs available for visits to the Nature Center or we can come to you in one of our outreach programs. For those children who do not attend a traditional school, you are not left out!  The Nature Center offers a series of homeschool programs for ages 4-12.

Day Camps: Of course, Sandy Creek Nature Center has one of the most popular day camps around with animal encounters, creek walks, fishing, trail hikes, and everything else to create a memory making summer. It fills quickly, so be sure to register early.

Special Events: Snake Day, Scary Oozy Slimy Day. Details on these annual activities will be available closer to the event date.

Take a moment and review the list, on the left side of this page, of upcoming activities and programs.
