If you have an emergency, such as an animal bite, a seriously sick or injured animal, or an animal trapped inside a living space of a home, call 706-613-3540 during business hours, if an officer is not available you will be prompted to leave a message so an officer can return your call.  Please call 911 after hours.

Responsibilities

Athens-Clarke County Animal Services protects the public safety and health from at-large and dangerous animals and protects animals from inhumane treatment. Animal Services provides the following services for citizens:

  • Adoption or reclaiming of impounded and surrendered dogs, cats and other domestic animals
  • Enforcement of the Athens-Clarke County Animal Services Ordinances
  • Information regarding lost or found pets
  • Investigations of allegations of animal cruelty
  • Public education on a variety of topics related to animals
  • Public safety from dangerous or seriously sick or injured animals and at-large dogs
